Weber GBS Accessories
I now own 2 Weber Master-touch Gourmet Barbeque System (GBS) 57cm. The thing I really like about this BBQ is the versatility it brings. I have written a review on the BBQ itself, but the accessories that are available for this BBQ really helps make it a great piece of kit.
For those of you that don’t know the Weber GBS, the key feature of this BBQ is that the center of the grill can be removed and replaced with different accessories to help with your cooking.
The list of different attachments for the Weber GBS is quite impressive and will help you with a variety of cooks. Some people will argue that some of them are not necessary and there are cheaper alternatives, but I can say about the accessories I own I have been very impressed. The full list includes:
- A Griddle
- A Wok and Steamer
- A Dutch Oven
- A Pizza Stone
- A Sear Grate
- A Poultry Roaster
I own the Griddle, Wok, Pizza Stone and Sear Grate and have provided a review of each below.
How Do They Perform?
One general comment I would make is that they are all really good quality. Despite being used numerous times they are all still in really good condition, are generally easy to clean.
The GBS Wok
I own the Wok but not the steamer portion of this. The Wok is cast iron and quite heavy as you would expect. Weber do not recommend you season before the first cook which surprised me. They just recommend washing with soap and water before first use. I did follow this instruction and have had no problems with food sticking or being really difficult to remove.
When the Wok is placed in the GBS it does not leave a great deal of space on the main grate, so when you are cooking with this it is not going to leave you with many options to cook other foods.
I use this pretty regularly and have managed a number of different cooks:
- Smokey Sweet BBQ Mussels
- Smokey Sweet BBQ Clams
- Chicken Al Kabsa
- Chilli Con Carne
- Arroz Con Pollo
- Arroz Atollado
You could also cook use the wok to do Risotto or Stir Fry dishes. The Wok does have an RRP of £79.99, but I use it tonnes so it has been a great investment.
I don’t own the Dutch Oven but I think you could also do the dishes I have cooked above in the Dutch Oven.
The GBS Griddle
The GBS Griddle is a great bit of kit. Again, this is cast iron, with an enamel coating. The Griddle heats us really quickly and is great to cook a variety of different foods. Again, when placed on the BBQ it does not leave a massive amount of space on the grate to cook additional items. Like the Wok, it is really easy to clean, just using soapy warm water.
I probably don’t use this as regularly as the Wok, but is has a large cook area and have used it to cook English breakfasts, eggs, scallops and squid. You could also use it do do vegetables and even potentially something like fajitas.
The Griddle costs £49.99 RRP so is not the cheapest accessory.
The GBS Sear Grate
Like the other GBS accessories, this is made from cast iron, with an enamel coating. Also very easy to clean. The cast iron helps to distribute heat evenly so you get a very good cook on this. I mainly only use this for steaks and chops, and the grate leave aesthetically pleasing sear marks on the meat.
This does not get as much use as the other accessories, and with an RRP of £49.99 (although you can get it cheaper) I am not convinced, for me personally, that this was a great purchase.
The Pizza Stone
I got bought the pizza stone as a present and unfortunately, it has not seen much use. Quite soon after I got the stone I got bought an UUNI 3 pizza oven, and for me, there is no comparison between the two. Since the UUNI came on the scene the pizza stone has not made an appearance.
With the couple of cooks, I did with the stone, I got ok results. I definitely preferred cooking pizza on the BBQ than doing it in the oven. The RRP for this is £49.99 so is is 25% of the way to an UUNI, which in my view is far superior.
I don’t own the Dutch Oven or Chicken Roaster, and if I am honest I will not be adding them to the collection. In the case of the Chicken Roaster, I think there are cheaper alternatives that do exactly the same thing. If I did not own the Wok I would consider the Dutch Oven, but again with owning the Wok and then other ceramic dishes I can use on the BBQ it is quite an outlay to make.
I am a real fan of the GBS system. I think it provides versatility and depending on what you want to cook on the BBQ can help you. I think views on each of the attachments will vary from person to person as we will all cook different foods more often than others. Out of all the accessories I use the Wok the most, and really do think it is great value.
Overall, all the accessories are quality items and if you decide you have a need for them you won’t be disappointed. There are alternatives available but overall I do think the GBS kit delivers good value.
