Review: Boska Cheese Barbeclette
What is a Barbeclette
The Barbeclette is a small accessory that helps you melt cheese on the BBQ. It’s a great way to melt cheese that you can then use on burgers or over vegetables.
I have also used it to do Halloumi, which personally I prefer directly on the grill grates. However, a cheese that did work really well was Saganaki.
About the Barbeclette
The Barbeclette is a fairly small device measuring approximately 17cm x 9cm. It is made from a mixture of materials including a wooden handle, and enamel body. I was a little concerned at the wooden handle and using it on the BBQ, but it seems to be holding up well.
It cleans up very easily but is also dishwasher safe. The handle also folds over so it is fairly easy to store away.
It also comes with a plastic spatula that prevents scratches and easily removes the melted cheese onto plates.
How does it Cook
This was a spontaneous purchase from me. I picked it up in a Waitrose store, but these are also readily available at John Lewis or on Amazon.
This ‘gadget’ definitely does what it says on the tin. It will melt most cheese really well and it is then really easy to ‘pour’ the cheese over a burger or vegetables. Take a look at the video below from @onlyslaggin, who prepared some melted cheese over sourdough with some pickles:
@onlyslaggin seems to have really mastered using this but @clayfiish has also cooked up cheese using the Barbeclette. It got the thumbs up from both of them. @clayfiish also discovered that this also works well on an induction hob!
I have cooked a variety of cheese on this and really liked the Saganaki. Cheddar worked well but you need to be careful not to overcook it. Halloumi did not work too great but it has generally been good fun just to experiment.
One warning I would give it always remember that the handle gets hot on the Barbeclette. It has a metal frame which connects the handle to the main body and as you can imagine this gets very hot. I still forget this important fact which my hand doesn’t thank me for!!!
This is definitely a luxury item! Do you desperately need one? Probably not! There are other ways to melt cheese on the BBQ.
However, for £9.00 I think it is outstanding value. It is really well built and great fun to use. As mentioned above you don’t have to use it exclusively on the BBQ as it will also work on an induction hob.
I am looking to using this more over the winter months and trying different cheeses to see what results I can get.
